I've got a red reference too. But i have 5 peice with a 16x16 floor tom.

How do you tune your drums? Low, high, medium tension? In your opinion what gives the reference the best sound?
By the way I have a new snare now. It's a Spaun maple 5.5x14. It's sweet.

Sorry for the delayed response.  Been busting my @ss finishing up the Cymbal library on our site.  We now have the entire Zildjian and Sabian product lines on our site.  Every.  Single.  Cymbal.

Whew!

When tuning my drums, I pretty much find the "happy spot" where the shell likes to resonate and sing.  I don't tune real low and "floppy" and I don't tune real super tight where the shell chokes out either.  Tuning is an art that takes a lot of practice!
